The 3-ingredient dog foot soak your pup will thank you for 🐾
Because happy gut, happy mutt - and happy paws too.
If your dog spends any time outside (and honestly, when don't they?), their paws are picking up more than just mud. Allergens, bacteria, grass seeds, and environmental grime all hitch a ride back inside on those four little feet.
The good news? A simple, natural foot soak takes about 5 minutes and can make a real difference - especially for dogs with itchy, sensitive, or irritated paws. And with our Puppy Mud bentonite clay in the mix, this one's next level.
Why these ingredients?
Puppy Mud bentonite clay is the star of the show here. Bentonite clay is known for its ability to draw out impurities and soothe irritated skin. When applied topically, it can help pull toxins and allergens from the surface of the paws, leaving them clean and calm.
Baking soda is a gentle natural deodoriser and mild antiseptic. It helps neutralise any odour (yes, even that classic "corn chip" paw smell) and can ease minor itching.
Epsom salts are magnesium sulphate - a time-tested soak ingredient that helps reduce inflammation and soothe tired, achy paws. Great for active dogs or older pups whose joints need a little extra love.
The recipe
Dr Heidi's Secret Paw Soak Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Puppy Mud bentonite clay
- 1 cup baking soda
- 2 cups Epsom salts
- Warm water (enough to fill the bowl)
Method:
- Fill a bowl or basin with warm (not hot) water - enough to comfortably cover your dog's paws.
- Add the Puppy Mud, baking soda, and Epsom salts. Stir until dissolved.
- Gently place your dog's paws in the soak and hold for 5–10 minutes. Keep your pup calm - a treat or two helps!
- Rinse paws thoroughly with clean water and pat dry with a soft towel.
Vet tip: This soak is great as a regular maintenance routine - especially after walks, during allergy season, or if your dog is prone to licking their paws. Always rinse thoroughly and pat dry to avoid moisture sitting between the toes. If irritation is persistent or worsening, check in with your vet.
The best part? You can prep a big batch of the dry mix (clay + baking soda + Epsom salts) and store it in a jar. Then it's ready to scoop and go whenever your pup comes in from a muddy adventure.
Because your dog walks through everything for you. The least we can do is take care of those paws. 🐾
